Is saddled with the main responsibility of carrying out financial transactions of the Commission, ie receipts and payments for all activities as approved by the accounting officer. The department is also involved in budget preparation and sourcing of funds from the budget office as the need arises.
For effective discharge of its duties, the department is structured as follows:-
DIRECTOR FINANCE & ACCOUNT. The Head of department and reports to the accounting officer. He liaises with other departments in the Commission for effective and efficient flow of activities. Monitors all transactions in relation to the available funds. He is assisted by;
Deputy Director. Who monitors the units to ensure that all activities are being carried out.
Expenditure – The unit where payment vouchers are raised in line with the budgetary provision. Headed by an Assistant Director
Advances – Also prepares payment vouchers for advance payments. Headed by a Assistant Chief Accountant.
Checking – Checks all vouchers before submission to Internal Audit. Headed by an Assistant Chief Accountant.
Salaries/Variation – Handles all salaries related matters and liaise with the OAGF accordingly. Also headed by an Assistant Chief Executive Officer Accounts.
Central Pay Office – The C P O is where payments are finally executed. It is headed by an Assistant Director.
Final Account – Prepares and submit to OAGF on a monthly basis transcript of account summarizing all the financial transactions. This unit is headed by a Principal Executive Officer I, Accounts.
Account Admin/Audit Query – Takes care of the administrative issues in the department in conjunction with Deputy Director and Director Finance and Accounts. Also handles all audit observations/queries on the accounts of the Commission. The Section is headed by a Principal Executive Officer (Accounts).
In view of the many activities of the Commission, there, is always pressure on the available funds. The Department is therefore faced with the problem of balancing the various request with the available funds. Funds are always not sufficient to carry out all intended activities.
